Abigail Folger Before the Benedict Canyon Murders:

Abigail Folger was born on Aug. 11, 1943, and would die just two days before her 26th birthday. Born into an über wealthy and Catholic family, Folger’s early life was one of tradition and high-society training. She was a debutante and a model student who graduated from Harvard University with a Master of Art History degree.

She worked for the University of California Art Museum in Berkeley, then left for New York where she worked at a bookstore and then as a social worker in the Watts ghettos. It was in New York in 1968 when she met Voytek Frykowski, who was new to America. He claimed to be an aspiring writer. The two communicated mostly in French as his English wasn’t very good.

Wojciech Frykowski was an aspiring writer from Poland who tried to make it in Hollywood with the help of his friend, Roman Polanski. But his connections would prove deadly.

Frykowski, who often went by the nicknames Wojtek or Voytek, earned a degree in chemistry but found himself struck by the cinema bug and wanted to become more involved in his friend’s film projects.

His first opportunity came when Polanski was making a short film, 1962’s Mammals. Not having any filmmaking skills at that point, Frykowski jumped in as the film’s financier, though he was never properly credited for the project.
